MANILA, Philippines — A man who was simply reminded to wear his face mask properly in Taguig City surprised several police officers when he panicked and acted strangely. The reason: He was reportedly carrying an unlicensed firearm, a grenade and illegal drugs.
Reports from the Southern Police District (SPD) on Thursday said that a certain Jamoran Cayagcag, 27, had been reminded by policemen stationed along Roldan Street in Taguig’s New Lower Bicutan area on Wednesday evening to wear his face mask, as part of the health protocols against COVID-19.
But instead of adhering to the authorities’ reminders, he ran away and tried to elude the officers. After he was apprehended, officers found that he was actually in possession of a hand grenade, .38 caliber revolver with four bullets, and a plastic sachet that contained a crystal-like substance believed to be shabu or crystal meth.
The illegal substance weighed around 25 grams, and was estimated to be worth P170,000.
Officials of the SPD said that the illegal substance have been turned over to the district’s Crime Laboratory Office for chemical analysis, while the suspect has been detained at the Taguig City Police Station’s custodial facility.
The suspect is set to face charges for violating sections of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, R.A. No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, R.A. No. 9516, which amended Presidential Decree No. 1866 or the laws on unlawful possession of explosives.
