TACLOBAN CITY – The body of another suspected communist rebel who died in an armed encounter with government troopers in Eastern Samar was found by authorities in Barangay Osmeña, Dolores town on Wednesday, August 18.
Captain Reynaldo Aragones, the spokesperson of the 8th Infantry Division, based in Catbalogan City, Samar, said the number of fatalities during the clash had reached 19.
Aragones said they also found two more firearms, bringing the total number of guns they seized during the 13-hour ground and air assault to 30.
On Monday, government troopers from the 52nd Infantry Battalion (IB) attacked the camp of the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels located in Barangay Osmeña, 40 kilometers away from the town proper of Dolores.
No one was killed on the side of the government.
The bodies of the rebels were airlifted and brought to the headquarters of the 52nd IB based in Oras town, Eastern Samar.
