Lawmaker says to launch people's movement to convince Inday Sara to run for president

MANILA, Philippines — A people’s movement called Hugpong Para kay Sara or HPS will be launched this coming September, according to party-list representative Bernadette Herrera.

Herrera would serve and function as HPS’s secretary-general.

The Sara they are referring to is Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte.

“HPS is a people’s movement gathering together those who believe that Mayor Sara is the one who can also take over and run for president. We want to convince her to run for president, ” Herrera told INQUIRER. net.

The mayor of Davao City has yet to decide on whether to run for the presidency in next year’s national elections.

“Whoever will be president for the next six years, the task would be gigantic. We believe that Mayor Sara is the right candidate,” Herrera added.

HPS was supposed to have an early launch last August 7, according to Herrera.

HPS as a people’s movement will recommend researched-based solutions to Duterte-Carpio on pertinent problems and issues that need to be addressed by the next president.

“We will present to her research-based solutions to show our commitment that we want her to succeed in addressing what needs to be addressed,” Herrera said.

The lawmaker is optimistic that the mayor of Davao City will soon announce her bid for the presidency.
