BACOLOD CITY — A 3-year-old boy and a 63-year-old woman from Barangay Mansilingan in Bacolod City have tested positive for the highly contagious COVID-19 Delta variant.
This brings the number of Delta variant cases in Bacolod City to four, said Em Ang, city administrator and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) executive director.
The boy, who is the city’s third Delta variant case, was asymptomatic. He was believed to have been infected by his father, a security guard at a Bacolod bank.
On the other hand, the elderly female, who is the fourth Delta variant case in Bacolod City, was symptomatic. She was fully vaccinated with Sinovac.
Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia reiterated his appeal to all Bacolodnons to remain vigilant and to observe the minimum health protocols.
After receiving the report that two more Bacolod residents tested positive for the Delta variant, Leonardia said he immediately ordered the lockdown of the affected residential areas.
“There is no cause for alarm as both patients have already recovered,” he said.
The Delta is just one of several variants of SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus first detected in China’s Wuhan province in late 2019. SARS-CoV-2 causes the serious respiratory illness COVID-19.
Variants of SARS-CoV-2 also include Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Theta, and Lambda, among others. So far, the World Health Organization tagged the Delta, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma as variants of concern or VOCs.
