Red Cross Paranaque gets P1.8M from UPS Foundation for disaster response project

MANILA, Philippines – The UPS Foundation awarded a grant totaling more than P1.8 million (US$43,892) to the Philippine Red Cross Rizal Chapter – Parañaque City Branch – in support of its Red Cross 143 Training Project.

The Red Cross 143 Training Project aims to promote disaster preparedness and management training, mobilizing and empowering teams of volunteers in the 16 barangays (districts/villages) in Parañaque City, which is largely made up of residential areas. In this project, response teams are provided with a kit that contains materials essential to disaster response. A total of 2,000 volunteers are expected to complete the training program by May 2012.

UPS and the Philippine Red Cross Rizal Chapter – Parañaque City Branch have a sustaining partnership. Previously, The UPS Foundation awarded a US$ 50,000 grant to the Philippine Red Cross in 2009, as part of relief efforts for the victims of Typhoon Ondoy. More recently, UPS Philippines employees have helped build shelter for the victims of Typhoon Ondoy, helping rebuild their lives two years after the tragedy.
