TAGBILARAN CITY — At least two cases of the COVID-19 Delta variant were detected in Bohol province.

Tagbilaran City Mayor John Geesnell Yap on Monday announced on Facebook that one of the persons who contracted the virus is a resident of Barangay Ubujan but works outside the city.

In an interview, Dr. Jeia Pondoc of the Tagbilaran City Health Office said the person only showed minor symptoms and has already recovered.

Pondoc said they are doing contact tracing to determine whether or not the variant was able to spread in Bohol.

Bohol Gov. Arthur Yap also confirmed the presence of the Delta variant in Candijay town.

According to the Candijay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the person who tested positive for the Delta variant is an overseas Filipino worker (OFW).

The OFW had already recovered last August 3.

As of Monday, Bohol posted 811 active COVID-19 cases. Since the pandemic started, the province had 10,879 cases with 9,834 recoveries and 234 deaths.

Mayor Yap reminded the public to always follow the health protocols imposed by the government to slow down the spread of the virus.
