MANILA, Philippines — A helicopter coming from Zamboanga City and bound for Basilan with Sen. Christopher Go aboard almost had an accident on Saturday, according to a report aired on “Bisaya Time” over AM radio station DZRH on Sunday.

Go was on his way to attend the launch of two Malaskit Centers in Basilan, an island province in Mindanao. It was the 135th and 136th centers to be opened nationwide.

In an interview on Sunday night with “Bisaya Time” anchors Noche Cacas and Edwin Duque, Go said he noticed the chopper descending rapidly and bouncing twice in the air, with the motor making a strange sound.

The pilot told him a tailwind was pushing the chopper down. He was able to regain control and landed the chopper safely. Go was able to attend the opening of the Malasakit Center without further incident.

Speaking partly in Cebuano and Filipino, Go said: “By the grace of God and Allah — I was going to Basilan yesterday — I was safe… I though it was the end for me.”

“For me, as your public servant, it would be an honor to die while serving our countrymen,” he went on.

“I’m not really afraid to die. Only God knows when he’s going to take us,” he added.
