MANILA, Philippines — A low pressure area (LPA) near the Bicol Region is bringing cloud clusters over the eastern parts of the country, causing isolated rain showers and thunderstorms on Saturday.
Reports from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Saturday afternoon said that the LPA is expected to cross the Southern Luzon area, specifically that of Calabarzon and Mimaropa, in the coming hours.
The LPA, last spotted 85 kilometers northeast of Borongan, Eastern Samar, is not seen to intensify and turn into a tropical depression.
“Inaasahan natin na posibleng bumaybay itong low pressure area na ‘to dito sa may Southern Tagalog area, pero hindi natin ‘to inaasahan na magiging bagyo or magdevelop into a tropical depression within the next days,” weather specialist Raymond Ordinario said.
(We are expecting that the LPA would move along the Southern Luzon area, but we are not expecting this to become a storm or a tropical depression in the next days.)
“So ngayon over the weekend and itong papasok na susunod na linggo ay maliit pa rin ang tsansa na magkaroon tayo ng bagyo na babantayan sa loob ng ating area of responsibility,” he added.
(So from today over the weekend and this coming week, there would still be a small chance for storms to enter our area of responsibility.)
Despite the LPA’s presence, Pagasa believes that the rest of the country including Metro Manila may still have generally fair weather, with isolated rains coming in later in the day.
But for Sunday, a huge area in Luzon would experience cloudy skies and rains due to the LPA, specifically in Bicol Region, Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Metro Manila, and the Mindoro provinces.
Temperatures over Metro Manila may dip to 24 to 31 degrees Celsius, Legazpi with 25 to 31 degrees, Tagaytay with 22 to 29 degrees. Other areas with a better weather condition may feel hot days as temperatures would play around 25 to 33 degrees in Tuguegarao, 26 to 33 degrees in Puerto Princesa, and 24 to 32 degrees in Laoag.
In Visayas and Mindanao, Tacloban and Cebu may see rains on Sunday and register lower temperatures of 25 to 29 degrees Celsius and 24 to 31 degrees, respectively. The rest of the island groups would have a warm and humid Sunday, with Davao having 25 to 33 degrees, Zamboanga with 25 to 34 degrees, and Cagayan de Oro with 23 to 33 degrees.
