No extension of ECQ in Metro Manila until Aug. 30 — MMDA
MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Saturday denied a news report quoting Metro Manila Council (MMC) chair Edwin Olivarez that the mayors of Metro Manila have agreed to extend the enhanced community quarantine up to August 30.
“MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos said he talked with Olivarez and the mayor refuted the article, adding that no meeting among Metro mayors occurred,” the agency said in a statement.
The MMDA added that the mayors of Metro Manila are now focused on their respective vaccination drives and on the distribution of “ayuda” (aid) to qualified recipients.
“Any recommendation that will be made by the MMC shall be based on data, LGU (local government unit) capabilities, and experts’ (health and economic) studies,” the MMDA said.
The MMC, composed of the mayors of Metro Manila’s 17 cities and the municipality of Pateros, is the policy-making body of the MMDA.
