LAOAG CITY—At least seven more cases of the highly transmissible Delta variant of COVID-19 had been detected in Ilocos Norte, Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc said on Thursday, Aug. 12.
The new cases brought to 12 the province’s total cases infected with the variant that originated from India.
In a statement, the governor said they traced the seven cases to seven towns.
He said all possible measures would be exhausted to curb the spread of the Delta variant in the province.
On Thursday, at least 161 new cases were added to the province’s COVID-19 tally, bringing to 3,923 the total number of active infections. It also recorded 269 recoveries on the same day.
The province will remain under modified enhanced community quarantine, the second most strict containment classification in the country, from Aug. 16 to 31.
Ilocos Norte has logged 11,109 cases since the pandemic began in 2020, of which 7,030 had recovered, and 156 had died. INQ
