MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila mayors eye the complete vaccination of at least 50 percent of the capital region’s residents by the end of August, Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez said Friday.
Olivarez, who also chairs the Metro Manila Council (MMC), said the current target is to give 70 percent of the capital region’s residents at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“Tapos at least 50 percent nitong August na ito na fully vaccinated ang ating mga kababayan sa Metro Manila,” Olivarez said in an interview with Teleradyo.
(We aim to have 50 percent of Metro Manila residents vaccinated this August.)
“Pero ‘yung first vaccine dapat umabot tayo ng 70 percent ng target population natin,” he added.
(The first vaccine (dose) should reach 70 percent of the target population.)
According to Olivarez, the mayors of Metro Manila aim to administer 250,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses per day during the imposition of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
Olivarez said this is still possible as long as there is enough supply of the vaccine.
As of August 11, some 12,027,383 individuals in the entire country have already been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Since February, the Philippines has already received 39.5 million COVID-19 vaccine doses— a mix of jabs procured by the government and donated by the COVAX facility and by other countries.
