/ 07:05 AM June 14, 2011

The two children who witnessed the killing of their parents in Lapu-Lapu City are suffering the trauma of  such violence,  a social worker said.

“They are afraid to be left alone  and have nightmares in their sleep,”  said a  social worker, who requested anonymity for security reasons.

The two children, aged 6 and 4, are under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development and stay in a  facility guarded by police in Lapu-Lapu City.

The children  can’t be moved yet until a  complete psychiatric evaluation is made.

Their father, Fernando Canillo, a  member of the Kuratong Baleleng gang, his live-in partner Emma Beronguis and their 3-year-old son were shot to death in their house in Lapu-Lapu City last Thursday by suspected gang members. /Reporter Candeze R. Mongaya
