Manila Mayor Francisco Domagoso was elected on Tuesday night as the president of the political party Aksyon Demokratiko.

On Aug. 4, he stepped down from his post as vice chair for political affairs at the National Unity Party.

Ernest Ramel, newly elected chair of the party who succeeded the late Herminio Aquino, in a statement on Thursday said Domagoso exhibited “a clean track record, tangible accomplishments and a vision that the party shares.”

Domagoso was elected during a general membership meeting attended by the party cofounder Sonia Roco and executive vice president Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto.

“It is an honor to be part of and elected as president of this progressive party that shows genuine concord toward our countrymen,” Domagoso said, adding that he will help push for the party’s advocacy in advancing minimum basic needs such as housing, jobs, food, education and health.

Concepcion, Tarlac, Mayor Andres Lacson was named vice chair while former National Youth Commission chair Leon Flores III will serve as Aksyon Demokratiko’s secretary general.
