Judiciary mourns death of retired SC Associate Justice Jose Perez

MANILA, Philippines—The Judiciary mourns the passing of retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Jose Perez.

The high court did not disclose the reason for his death.

Associate Justice Marvic Leonen, in a post on social media, said: “My condolences to the family and friends of Justice Jose “Pepe” Perez. It was an honor to have served with you in Court and to have learned from your wisdom having stayed long with the judiciary in different capacities.”

The Supreme Court Employees Associate also expressed their condolences and prayers to the family of Justice Perez.

Perez was a “homegrown” who started his judiciary journey as a court employee worked his way to becoming a Court Administrator and eventually a magistrate. He mandatorily retired on Dec. 14, 2016, after serving the judiciary for 45 years.

He was married to a retired public servant, Expedita S. Perez and they have three children.
