LAOAG CITY—At least 268 new cases were added Wednesday evening to Ilocos Norte’s COVID-19 tally, bringing the total number of its active infections to 4,031, provincial government data show.
The province also logged 427 new recoveries, the highest single-day record since the pandemic began last year. It had registered 10,948 COVID-19 cases, of which 6,761 had recovered, while 156 died.
All 23 towns and cities in Ilocos Norte now have active COVID-19 cases, including the cultural town of Adams with three infections on Wednesday.
At least 17 areas were also tagged as “red zones” for having at least 61 active COVID-19 cases.
Ilocos Norte’s capital city of Laoag remains to have the highest COVID-19 cases with 1,060.
The latest monitoring report of independent research group OCTA released on Thursday noted that Laoag’s average daily attack rate still falls under critical level at 46.72 per 100,000 population.
But the group noted a downward trend in the number of COVID-19 cases from Aug. 5 to 11.
