MANILA, Philippines — The Makati City government on Wednesday said it has begun distributing COVID-19 home care packages to its residents who have mild cases of the disease.
In a statement, the city government said each home care package includes a “COVID-19 home care handbook, alcohol, oral antiseptic, sore throat spray, fever pad, thermometer, washable and disposable face masks, pulse oximeter, vitamins and medicine for fever.”

By sending the COVID-positive residents home care kits, Makati City Mayor Abby Binay said patients will be able to monitor their condition and prevent it from getting worse.
“We want to make sure that our mild COVID cases have the right equipment to help them monitor themselves at home. We have seen to it that the contents of our home care package are useful and responsive to their needs,” Binay said.
“Our goal is to boost the recovery of mild cases right in their homes and prevent their condition from worsening so that they need not go to the hospital for treatment. In this way, we can reduce congestion in our hospitals,” she added.

Binay said the COVID-19 home care handbook in the kit provides information about COVID-19, the COVID-19 vaccines, as well as “proper home care measures, prescribed quarantine period, and other relevant information sourced from the Department of Health and the World Health Organization.”
Makati residents who are under home quarantine are also provided food packages, the city government said.
It also urged residents to closely monitor themselves for any possible symptoms and call Makati City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) via 8870-1442, 8870-1444, 8870-1447, and 8870-1448 should they need any help.
As of August 10, Makati City said it has 1,477 active COVID-19 cases.
