MANILA, Philippines — To prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the area, Muntinlupa has put a community in one of its barangays under Extreme Localized Community Quarantine (ELCQ).
After Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi called a meeting, he ordered a 15-day Extreme Localized Community Quarantine (ELCQ) on Chico Street, Laguerta in Barangay Tunasan beginning Tuesday, August 10, to August 25.
According to Muntinlupa City Health Office (CHO) chief Juancho Bunyi, the local government declared a granular lockdown after recording a high attack rate of 66.51 per 10,000 population and a short doubling time of just 4 days.
As of August 10, the community has three active cases, one of which is a 40-year-old individual along with two minors aged 10 and 13 years old.
Bunyi said Chico Street in Tunasan is home to 451 residents with the following high-risk groups: 19 seniors, 11 PWDs, 2 pregnant women, and 45 children under 5 years old.
The CHO said that the clustering of cases was observed in the community and minimum public health practices such as social distancing and the strict use of face masks are not strictly followed.
Furthermore, the CHO also noted that the community is congested because houses are close to one another.
The city’s health office is set to conduct mass testing in the community and will intensify its detection, isolation, and treatment strategies. Contact tracing of close contacts will also be facilitated.
Aside from this, the city will also provide relief food packs and other basic goods during the ELCQ.
PNP Muntinlupa is set to secure the community and augment roving personnel in nearby areas to ensure the public’s strict compliance with health protocols.
As of August 9, Muntinlupa City has 15,715 confirmed cases with 14,303 recoveries, 1,016 active cases, 396 reported deaths, 24 suspect cases, and 1,437 probable cases.
In terms of total vaccinations, 353,802 vaccines have already been deployed in Muntinlupa as of August 9. Of this number, 211,808 are first dose (54.9 percent of the target population) and 146,353 are second dose (37.9 of the target population).
The entire Metro Manila is currently under enhanced community quarantine from August 6 to 20 due to the rising cases of the more transmissible Delta variant.
