CEBU CITY—Only two COVID-dedicated hospital beds are available in Lapu-Lapu City in Mactan Island as two out of the three hospitals have already reached full capacity, according to the Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH-7).
In its situation report sent to reporters on Tuesday, DOH-7 said Lapu-Lapu City has 98.5 percent occupancy rate for its 130 COVID-dedicated hospital beds from its three hospitals.
In particular, the government-operated Lapu-Lapu City Hospital has 100 percent occupancy as of August 9. All its 73 beds are occupied.
The privately-owned Allegiant Regional Care Hospitals Incorporated has also reported to the DOH-7 that all its 40 COVID-19 dedicated hospital beds are also 100 percent occupied.
On the other hand, the Mactan Doctors Hospital has two more beds available for COVID-19. Its 15 other COVID-19 beds are full.
Other hospitals from the neighboring cities of Cebu and Mandaue, however, still have available beds for COVID-19 patients.
Cebu City has about 967 COVID-19 hospital beds from its 15 hospitals. At least 661 are occupied or about 68.4 percent.
Mandaue City, meanwhile, has 285 COVID-19 beds from its six hospitals. Some 173 beds are already occupied or about 60.7 percent.
Lapu-Lapu City still has isolation facilities located at the Lapu-Lapu City College and the Mactan National High School where mild and asymptomatic patients can be accommodated.
The isolation center in Lapu-Lapu City College can accommodate 190 patients. There is no data available as to the number of beds at the Mactan National High School.
On August 9, Lapu-Lapu City recorded 124 new infections bringing their total COVID-19 active cases to 1,679. The City also recorded more than 20 Delta variant cases.
