ANGELES CITY––The number of active COVID-19 cases continued to rise in this city as 82 new infections were reported Monday, Aug. 9, prompting the city government to declare a ban on the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
The active cases in the city rose to 683 on Monday from 421 on Aug. 3.
In a memorandum, Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. said the liquor ban would be effective until further notice.
He also required authorized persons outside of their residence and those from outside Pampanga traveling for medical or humanitarian reasons to present their current negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction or nasal antigen test results before entering this city.
The city recorded 20 new recoveries and four deaths on the same day.
The fatalities include villagers of Pandan, Claro M Recto, Sapangbato, and Santo Domingo.
A total of 7,853 COVID-19 cases had been recorded here since the pandemic began last year. Of these, 6,828 have recovered while 342 have died.
