MANILA, Philippines — Some 900,000 teachers will receive a P1,000 incentive for World Teacher’s Day which is celebrated every October 5, the Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Tuesday.

“In line with the government’s commitment to faithfully support our teachers for their dedication in delivering quality education, the Department of Education (DepEd) announces that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has approved the release of the World Teachers’ Day Incentive Benefit,” DepEd said in a statement.

“We are grateful to our 900,000-strong teachers who have displayed their unwavering passion to serve and educate the Filipino youth,” it added.

The program, which was introduced under Secretary Leonor Briones, will have a total cost of P910 million, according to DepEd.

The agency said they will soon issue the corresponding guidelines of the incentive.
