MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Manila mayors have agreed to begin distribution of cash aid on Wednesday, Aug. 11, amid the lockdown in the region due to the rising cases of the COVID-19 Delta variant, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said in a taped briefing with President Rodrigo Duterte that aired on Monday.
Under DILG’s Joint Memorandum Circular No.3 series of 2021, P10.98 billion will be used in the distribution of cash aid to over 10 million low-income Filipinos in the National Capital Region (NCR).
“Who are the recipients? These are the low-income individuals and families who have been identified by our LGUs. They are long-term or temporary residents in NCR who are affected by the ECQ,” Año said in Filipino.
The LGUs are required to release the assistance in cash and complete the distribution within 15 days.
According to Año, the Department of the Interior and Local Government had started working on a P278 supplemental budget to ensure that every constituent would receive aid.
“We will make sure that the distribution will be orderly with the help of the PNP [Philippine National Police] and the AFP [Armed Forces of the Philippines,” Año said.
