Active COVID-19 cases in Olongapo City rise to 253

OLONGAPO CITY––At least 14 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the city, which recently confirmed the detection of two cases of the more contagious Delta variant, local data showed on Sunday, Aug. 9.

Four of the latest to contract the virus in this city were 63 to 79 years old.

The new infections raised the city’s active cases within two days to 253 from 245, said the local task force.

Six patients recovered on the same day, pushing to 2,669 the city’s cases cleared of the viral disease.

The COVID-19 recovery rate slightly decreased to 86 percent from 88 percent in the last three weeks.

No one died of the disease on Sunday. Its death toll still stood at 172.

On Aug. 6, Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. announced that the city had logged its first two cases of the Delta variant.

He said all household contacts of the two patients would be tested while health workers had intensified their contact tracing.
