7 political parties ready to support a Sara Duterte presidential bid
MANILA, Philippines — Seven major political parties have signified their readiness to support a Sara Duterte presidential candidacy in the coming 2022 National Elections.
According to Davao Del Norte Governor and Hugpong ng Pagbabago Secretary-General Anthony del Rosario, all seven national political parties are awaiting the final decision of the Davao City mayor.
The seven political parties include Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrat of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Nacionalista Party of former Senate President Manny Villar and Senator Cynthia Villar, Puwersa ng Masang Pilipino of former President Joseph Estrada, National Unity Party of former Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronnie Puno, People’s Reform Party of the late Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino of Senator Sonny Angara, and Partido Federalismo ng Pilipinas of South Cotabato Governor Jun Tamayo.
“We’re now looking at 7 national parties wanting to be allied with Mayor Sara and Hugpong ng Pagbabago. So that’s good news for us because the presidency is a national campaign and we need every help that we can get,” Del Rosario told Inquirer.net.
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian of the Nationalist People’s Coalition also expressed readiness to support a Sara Duterte presidential candidacy should it happen. But the NPC is not supporting Mayor Sara. It is only Gatchalian who expressed readiness to support in line with a possible tandem as a candidate for vice president.
Interestingly though, some NPC members have expressed interest in supporting a Sara Duterte-Tito Sotto tandem shares Del Rosario.
The Senate President already declared his vice presidential bid in tandem with Senator Panfilo Lacson, running for the presidency.
“These seven political parties could actually go higher. The seven parties that I have mentioned have united behind Mayor Sara and HNP and I hope that they will continue to be behind Mayor Sara until the completion of the campaign period until election day,” adds Del Rosario.
HNP is expecting more political parties to declare their support for a Sara Duterte presidential candidacy before October of this year.
