LAOAG CITY – COVID-19 cases in Ilocos Norte since the pandemic broke out last year has breached the 10,000 mark after the 268 new infections recorded on Saturday raised the total number of infections to 10,016, data from the provincial government showed.
Of the total number of cases, 4,120 are active infections, while 5,748 individuals have recovered. The death toll stands at 148.
Ilocos Norte’s weekly average cases has increased to 273.6 from July 31 to August 6, compared to the prior week which was at 230, said the provincial government.
Laoag City continues to see a spike in COVID-19 cases despite being placed under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) since August 1, tallying 92 new cases on Saturday.
The city now has 1,047 active cases, the most in Ilocos Norte, followed by Batac City (563), and the towns of Bacarra (324), Pasuquin (226), Bangui (214), and Sarrat (211).
In an advisory issued by the Laoag City local government, all movements of local residents on Sundays while the area is under ECQ will be limited to access to medical needs and emergencies.
Only food delivery services are allowed to operate.
Business establishments not allowed to operate on Sundays will undergo disinfection by the Bureau of Fire and Protection, according to the executive order issued by Laoag Mayor Michael Marcos Keon.
Public transportation in Laoag City is also suspended on Sundays, according to Keon.
