Counterfeit 'branded' goods worth P7.4 billion seized in Pasay City

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) disclosed Saturday the confiscation of at least P7.4 billion worth of fake goods in Pasay City.

The BOC said the seizure happened on July 28 in Bagong Milenyo in  Pasay City following a Letter of Authority and Mission Order issued by Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero.

Upon inspection of the storage facilities in the area, authorities discovered counterfeit items of popular registered brands such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Vans, Fubu, Tribal, Under Armour, Nike, Adidas, Zara, H&M, Calvin Klein, and Old Navy.

Other deceitful imitation items confiscated by authorities bear the logos of Guess, Lee, Tommy Hilfiger, Lacoste, Havaianas, Freego, Wrangler, Burberry, Jordan, Gap, Bershka, Macbeth, Puma, Hollister, Reebok, Joe Malone, and Bulgari, among others.

The BOC said the imported counterfeit goods were seized for violation of Republic Act No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) and Republic Act No. 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.

The bureau said the operation marks their “biggest accomplishment resulting from a single operation to date.”
