Laoag City remains at ‘critical’ risk for COVID-19 infections – OCTA Research

LAOAG CITY — Ilocos Norte’s capital city of Laoag is still under “critical risk” for COVID-19 infections, according to the OCTA Research Team on Saturday.

In its latest report, OCTA Research said the average number of new daily cases in the city from July 31 to August 6 was 73, which was 28-percent higher than the daily average of cases logged in the previous week or from July 24 to 30.

The average daily attack rate (ADAR) in the city remained at the critical level at 63.16, which is eight times higher than the ADAR recorded nationwide. ADAR, which tracks the day-to-day increase or decrease in cases, refers to the number of people per 100,000 population who may be infected after specified exposure to the virus.

Laoag City accounts for 25-percent of the 3,950 total active cases in Ilocos Norte as of August 6, according to data from the provincial government.

The city is under enhanced community quarantine, the most restrictive quarantine classification imposed by the government, since August 1.
