MANILA, Philippines — Average new daily COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila rose by nearly 67 percent – and nationwide, by over 32 percent – during the week of July 31 to August 6, according to the latest OCTA Research Team report released Saturday.
OCTA Research said the average number of new daily cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) during that period was 1,915, which is higher than the 1,149 average new daily cases recorded the week prior or from July 24-30.
On a national scale, OCTA Research said the average number of new daily cases during that same period was 7,947, which was a 32-percent increase from the 6,003 average number of new daily cases the week before.
In terms of local government units (LGUs) with the highest average new daily cases from July 31 to August 6, OCTA Research said Quezon City was at the top spot with 328, trailed by Cebu City with 263, Manila with 23, Makati with 163, and Davao City with 157 cases.
The independent pandemic monitor also included in its list of LGUs with the highest average new daily cases Cagayan de Oro City (147 cases), Paranaque City (139 cases), and Pasig City (130 cases), among others.
On Saturday, August 7, the Department of Health (DOH) said it logged 11,021 new COVID-19 infections – the highest since April 17 this year – causing active cases to soar to 76,063.
The health agency also reported the recovery of 9,194 patients as well as the demise of 162 which increased the total recovered cases to 1,544,443 and the death toll to 28,835.
