Olongapo logs 2 cases of Delta variant

3 more die of COVID-19 in Olongapo City

OLONGAPO CITY—This city has recorded its first two cases of the more contagious Delta variant, a local official said Friday, Aug. 6.

Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. said the confirmation came from the Department of Health.

The more transmissible Delta variant, also known as B.1.617.2, had originated from India.

“While these persons have been declared recovered, they will be quarantined again pending the result of their swab tests,” Paulino said in a statement.

He said all household contacts of the two patients would be tested while health workers had intensified their contact tracing.
