MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported 10,623 new COVID-19 infections in the country—the highest since April 17—bringing the total number of active cases to 74,297 as of Friday.
According to DOH’s COVID-19 bulletin dated August 6, there are now 1,638,345 confirmed coronavirus cases nationwide.
The DOH likewise reported 3,127 new recoveries which brought the total number of individuals who have survived the disease to 1,535,375. The death toll, meanwhile, stood at 28,673 after 247 more patients died of the illness.
Of the active cases, the DOH said 94.8 percent are mild cases, 1.2 percent are asymptomatic, 1.8 percent are severe, 1.18 percent are moderate, and 1 percent, critical.
In terms of bed capacity, 62 percent of ICU beds and 53 percent of isolation beds in the country have been utilized., according to the DOH.
Also on Friday, the health agency reported 119 additional COVID-19 Delta variant cases, increasing the total to 450.
Of the latest Delta variant cases detected, 93 are local cases and 20 are Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROF). According to DOH, authorities are still trying to verify if the six other cases are local or ROF cases.
