MANILA, Philippines — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) on Friday announced the suspension of face-to-face classes in areas under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and modified ECQ.
President Rodrigo Duterte last week approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) to place Metro Manila under ECQ from August 6 to 20.
Tesda Secretary Isidro Lapeña said in a memorandum that “in accordance with the IATF and TESDA guidelines, the face-to-face training and assessment in areas under ECQ and MECQ shall be suspended while the ECQ/MECQ status is in effect.”
Lapeña, however, said that competency assessment for Domestic Work NC II conducted by Technology Institutions may continue in areas placed under MECQ and lower quarantine levels.
For areas under General Community Quarantine (GCQ), Tesda earlier allowed face-to-face training and assessment in coordination with concerned local government units and as long as public health and training protocols and standards are observed.
Lapeña encouraged a temporary shift to online and virtual modes of training and assessment for affected Technical Vocational Institutions (TVIs) and Assessment Centers (AC).
