Ex-cop in Taguig wins P22M, thanks to ‘horoscope’ tip

Fortune favored a former policeman who bought a mere P20 lotto ticket but picked a “lucky” combination he read in a horoscope column.

The retired policeman from Taguig City is now P22-million richer after hitting the jackpot in Wednesday night’s MegaLotto 6/45 draw, according to the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

The agency said the lone winner—a 63-year-old father of four—got the winning numbers: 33-34-38-40-14-8. He collected his prize on Thursday.

“The winner has been placing bets since 1995. On Wednesday, he bet P20 on numbers which he read from a horoscope column that gives lucky number tips,” PCSO General Manager Jose Ferdinand Rojas said.

Rojas said the winner only learned that he had won when he read a newspaper the following day. “He said he will spend the money for house renovation and to finance his car loan,” the official added.

The PCSO also said two winners will split the P300-million jackpot in the GrandLotto 6/55 draw, which was also held on Wednesday night.

Rojas said the winning GrandLotto combination—10-20-11-16-28-14—was correctly picked in a ticket bought in Hinunangan, Southern Leyte province, and another bought in Taytay, Rizal province.

The two winners have yet to claim their prizes at the PCSO headquarters in Pasay City as of Thursday.

The GrandLotto pot was last won in November last year. The latest jackpot prize had since grown 10 times from the minimum pot money of P30 million.
