New Eastern Visayas police director warns erring cops: I will hunt you down

TACLOBAN CITY––Eastern Visayas has a new police director. Brigadier General Rommel Bernardo Cabagnot assumed his post on Wednesday, Aug. 4, replacing Brigadier-General Ronaldo De Jesus, who retired at 56.

In his speech during the turn-over rites at Camp Ruperto Kangleon in Palo town, Leyte, Cabagnot said he would focus on getting rid of criminals, including members of the New People’ Army.

He also warned erring police personnel that he would “hunt them down.”

“Let everyone know that I am against scalawags or erring police officers. There will be no mercy for these scalawags in this organization. I will hunt you down,” he said.

Cabagnot said the region is not new to him as he once served as the police director of Samar in 2015.

His wife, Marisol Abdurahman, a news reporter of GMA-7, also hails from Catbalogan City in Samar.

De Jesus expressed his gratitude to the people of Eastern Visayas.

De Jesus was the region’s top cop from September 2020 until Aug. 4, which falls on his 56th birthday.
