Meralco suspends disconnection during lockdown

MANILA, Philippines — The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) on Tuesday said it was suspending for two weeks the disconnection of services for customers with unpaid bills in Laguna, which has been placed on modified enhanced community quarantine from Aug. 1 to 15 and in Metro Manila, which will be on lockdown from Aug. 6 to 20.

“Given the current situation, we continue to take into consideration the challenges our customers are facing amid these difficult times,” Ferdinand Geluz, chief commercial officer of Meralco, said in a statement.

“Thus, we will again suspend all disconnection activities in NCR (National Capital Region) and Laguna to help ease the burden of our customers with the needed relief and additional time to settle their bills,” Geluz said.
