Corona wife denies text message to ‘media personality’ over closed peso accounts

MANILA, Philippines – The wife of embattled Chief Justice Renato Corona denied on Thursday that she texted a “media personality” explaining why the purported peso accounts of her husband were closed on Dec. 12, 2011, the day he was impeached by the House of Representatives.

“It has come to my attention that a certain Tina Corona has texted a media personality. I have not done that and I have not interacted with any media since the impeachment case has been referred to the Senate for trial,” Ma. Cristina R. Corona said in a statement Thursday, referring to a local news website that posted the story.

Mrs. Corona appealed to media outfits to “be fair” and “responsible enough to check and verify your sources before issuing any report.
