MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga––The provincial government has recorded 48 deaths due to COVID-19 complications within a week.
From 1,118 fatalities on July 26, the number of Pampanga residents who died from the viral disease jumped to 1,166 on Aug. 1.
The number of active cases also climbed to 2,210 from 1,861 during the same period.
The numbers did not include Angeles, a highly urbanized city independent from the province.
Pampanga registered 24,285 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began last year. Of these, 20,909 have recovered.
It recorded 124 new cases Sunday, which do not include data from Mabalacat City and Sta. Ana towns, which did not provide information to the provincial government.
San Fernando, the province’s capital, has the most active cases at 422; Mabalacat City had 270 as of July 30, and Floridablanca registered 120 as of Aug. 1.
Gov. Dennis Pineda has imposed a curfew from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., a liquor ban, and stricter rules on entering the province as part of the restrictions against COVID-19.
Except for the authorized persons outside of their residence, non-residents of Pampanga need to present their current negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction or antigen test results to enter the province. INQ
