OLONGAPO CITY––The river flowing through Barangay Mabayuan here rose to a warning level on Monday morning, Aug. 2, due to torrential rains spawned by the prolonged southwest monsoon.

Data from the city disaster risk reduction and management office showed that the water level underneath the Mabayuan Bridge was at 1.50 meters as of 10: 35 a.m. It was already nearing the critical level of 2.50 m.

The high tide expected at 1:44 p.m. of the same day could worsen the swelling river.

A localized thunderstorm warning was issued in the city Monday due to the moderate to heavy rain with lightning and strong winds experienced in the city.

Last week, the main rivers in the city breached their banks due to the incessant rains that triggered widespread flooding and evacuation of families in vulnerable areas.
