MANILA, Philippines – Monsoon rains will continue to persist in Northern Luzon (Ilocos region, Cordillera Administrative Region) Cagayan, Batanes and some parts of Central Luzon (Zambales, Bataan) on Sunday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Fair weather is expected in most parts of the country with sudden rain showers and thunderstorms still possible due to the “habagat” or southwest monsoon.

“Makakaasa pa rin tayo ng maulap na kalangitan na may mga kalat kalat na pagulan at thunderstorm sa Ilocos region, Cordillera, at kasama na rin ang mga lalawigan ng Batanes, Cagayan, Zambales, at Bataan,” said Pagasa weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio.

(Expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in the Ilocos region, Cordillera including the provinces of Batanes, Cagayan, Zambales, and Bataan.)

“Samantala, sa nalalabing bahagi ng Luzon kasama ang Metro Manila, inaasahan po natin ang magandang panahon, maliban sa mga biglaang buhos ng ulan o mga pulo pulong pag-ulan dahil sa thunderstorm,” he added.

(“Meanwhile, fair weather is expected in the rest of Luzon including Metro Manila, except for sudden downpours due to thunderstorms.)

The same fair weather should also be expected in both Visayas and Mindanao, as well as the sudden rain and thunderstorms, according to Aurelio.

Forecast temperature range in key cities/areas:

  • Metro Manila: 25 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Baguio City: 17 to 21 degrees Celsius
  • Laoag City:  25 to 30 degrees Celsius
  • Tuguegarao: 26 to 36 degrees Celsius
  • Legazpi City: 26 to 33 degrees Celsius
  • Puerto Princesa City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Tagaytay: 22 to 29 degrees Celsius
  • Kalayaan Islands: 26 to 31 degrees Celsius
  • Iloilo City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius
  • Cebu: 26 to 34 degrees Celsius
  • Tacloban City: 27 to 35 degrees Celsius
  • Cagayan De Oro City: 24 to 36 degrees Celsius
  • Zamboanga City: 24 to 36 degrees Celsius
  • Davao City: 24 to 33 degrees Celsius

No weather disturbance is expected to form or enter the Philippine area of responsibility in the next two to three days.

A gale warning, however, was  raised over the northern, western seaboards of Northern Luzon, as well as the western seaboard of Central Luzon.

“Huwag munang pumalaot dahil inaasahan pa rin natin ang matataas na alon, kung saan aabot ng halos limang metro,” Aurelio said.

(Avoid sailing in these areas due to high waves, which may reach five meters.)
