MANILA, Philippines — COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 27,889 people in the Philippines as of Saturday after the Department of Health (DOH) recorded 167 new casualties.
The total deaths represent 1.76% of the total 1.58 million confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, the DOH said in its daily case bulletin.
The number of new deaths is slightly higher than the 145 casualties recorded on Friday.
Also recorded were 8,147 new infections and 9,117 recoveries, bringing the number of active cases to 60,887.
Two laboratories were operational on July 29 while one laboratory was not able to submit its data to the COVID-19 document repository system, the health department said.
Meanwhile, the DOH said it reclassified 102 cases previously tagged as recoveries as deaths.
