MANILA, Philippines — The Senate is considering suspending plenary sessions during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) period in Metro Manila.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III and Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri told reporters in a message Friday that the Senate may still hold sessions next week.

But the chamber may suspend sessions from August 9 to 11, according to Zubiri. The Senate building is located in Pasay City.

The Senate is currently allowing a hybrid setup in conducting sessions as well as committee hearings.

Earlier in the day, Malcañang announced that Metro Manila would be placed under ECQ, the government’s strictest quarantine classification, from August 6 to 20.
