MANILA, Philippines — At least 29 of the 119 Delta variant cases in the country have not been vaccinated against COVID-19, the Department of Health (DOH) said Wednesday.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the DOH is still trying to verify the vaccination status of some of the other Delta variant cases.

“May mga bineverify pa tayo pero dito sa talaan na meron kami, anim sa kanila ay nakareceive ng dalawang doses ng bakuna, pito ang nakareceive ng isang dose, 29 ay hindi bakunado, and 77 cases pa ang vineverify natin if they were vaccinated or not,” she told ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo.

(We are still verifying the vaccination status of other cases but based on the current data we have, six of them have received two doses, seven have gotten one dose, 29 are not vaccinated, and 77 are still being verified if they were vaccinated or not.)

Vergeire earlier said that the Delta variant cases that were confirmed to have been vaccinated only had mild or asymptomatic infections. She added that this early data showed that vaccines still work despite the presence of COVID-19 variants of concern.

“Based on this, although we are saying na hindi pa naman kumpleto ang pag-aaral, nakikita natin na vaccines work. At kapag tiningnan natin ang number of infections sa hospitals, compared to before, bumaba talaga ang number ng healthcare workers na nagkakasakit, at ‘yung nagkakaroon ng sakit at na-o-ospital ay mga unvaccinated,” Vergeire said in a media briefing on Monday.

(Based on this data, although studies are not yet complete, we can see that vaccines work. If we will also look at data, the number of healthcare workers who get infected is now lower than before, and those getting sick and hospitalized are unvaccinated.)

Twelve of the 119 cases of the Delta variant in the country remain active, according to DOH.
