10 HURT IN MANDAUE ROAD MISHAP

NINE jeepney passengers and its driver were injured in a road accident in Mandaue City, Tuesday night.

Brake failure and a wet road were blamed for the accident.

The 21G PUJ was cruising Tipolo Highway in Mandaue City with 17 passengers bound for Cebu City.

Emmanuel Tagapi, one of the injured passengers, said the driver Joel Pino was traveling very fast in a zigzag movement.

They even yelled at him to slow down because they were scared.

The vehicle overturned, injuring nine of the passengers.

They were rushed to the hospital by paramedics of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation.

The driver admitted that he was not familiar with the brakes and steering wheel of the PUJ because his son was the regular driver. His son who was not feeling well had asked him to bring the passengers to Cebu City.

Pino said he has a professional driver’s license and still drives a PUJ from time to time, but usually acts as his son’s conductor.

STABBED OVER TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

A minor traffic accident led to the stabbing of a bakeshop driver in barangay Basak, Mandaue City, Tuesday night.

Rolly Gomez, 33, was rushed to Mandaue City Hospital with the knife still stuck in his right hip.

He was later transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for a surgery.

He was stabbed by a habal-habal driver, Edgar Abenita, 45, whose parked motorbike he accidentally hit.

Abenita admitted to the stabbing and was detained at the Mandaue City Police Station 3 stockade.

Gomez was driving the motorcycle of Baker’s Bob Bakeshop when he accidentally hit the motorbike parked by the road.

Abenita told the police Gomez did not bother to stop so he chased him until they reached the bakeshop.

The irate Abenita approached Gomez and stabbed him.
