OLONGAPO CITY—The local government received at least 7,800 doses of COVID-119 vaccine made by the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) and were donated by the U.S. to the government last week.
On Tuesday (July 27), at least 1,000 more residents on the priority list received the single-shot Janssen vaccine during a mass vaccination at the SMX Convention Center in SM Olongapo Central.
According to the city health office, senior residents and those with comorbidities were the target recipients of the J&J vaccine.
The city began administering the U.S.-made vaccine on Monday and aims to dispense all the available supplies within a week by vaccinating at least 1,000 people per day.
The government received a total of 3.2 million J&J vaccines through the COVAX global vaccine pool.
Aside from Janssen, the city has been administering the Sinovac vaccine from China and AstraZeneca from the U.K.
So far, the city has vaccinated at least 18,000 residents and over 10,000 of them have been fully vaccinated, including those who received the single shot.
Olongapo targets to inoculate 70 percent of its 260,000-population to achieve herd immunity against COVID-19. INQ
