LAOAG CITY––At least 283 people were logged Monday to have contracted COVID-19 in Ilocos Norte, the highest that the province ever recorded in a single day, provincial government data showed.
The province also recorded 67 new recoveries and two deaths related to the viral disease on the same day.
In Batac City, the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center has exceeded its capacity of 104 COVID-19 beds. The hospital is treating 109 patients.
Laoag City, the epicenter of COVID-19 cases in the province, now has 927 patients, followed by Batac (266), and the towns of Bangui (169), Bacarra (151), Sarrat (143), Dingras (130), and Pagudpud (125).
At least 16 of the 23 towns and cities in the province were tagged as “red zones” for having at least 21 active COVID-19 cases. Only the cultural towns of Nueva Era and Adams have no active patients.
As of July 26, the province recorded 7,007 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began last year, of which 4,395 had recovered while 110 had died.
