Koreans face trial for kidnap raps

Four South Koreans face trial on kidnap for ransom charges for snatching a fellow Korean who visited Cebu City last August.

The Cebu City Prosecutors’ Office filed charges against Kin Jong Seok, Choi Se Yong, Kin Sung Kon and an unidentified man.

No bail was recommended.

They all remain at large.

The victim was able to return to Korea after friends raised some money.

The four Koreans were accused of extorting ransom from tourist Kwon Young Hoon last Aug. 21, 2011.

Kwon, a resident of Chungbuk in South Korea, said he was beaten up by the suspects after they lured him with a promise of having a good time in Cebu City. He got acquainted with them on the Internet. He was told to raise funds for his release. Kwon managed to raise $7,000 from friends in Korea who deposited the money in his bank account.He said his captors withdrew the money in Cebu and dropped him off at the airport.
