Pasay cops disperse assembly of Bagsamoro Transition Authority supporters

Localized lockdown imposed in 22 more Pasay villages

MANILA, Philippines — The Pasay police on Monday dispersed a group calling for the extension of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA).

Speaking to INQUIRER.net, Pasay police chief Cesar Paday-os said more or less 50 individuals attempted to assemble at Diokno Boulevard.

The protestors were on their way to the Senate, but were already dispersed.

“Hindi namin sila in-allow na mag-assemble at mag-organize doon, so ang sabi ko: I-turn niyo na lang yung advocacy niyo o kung anong gusto niyong iparating sa social media platform,” Paday-os said.

(We did not allow them to assemble and organise there and I told them to express their advocacy and messages instead through social media platforms.)

“Hindi ngayong, dito sa kalsada dahil GCQ (General Community Quarantine) lalong lalo na mag-oorganize kayo sa kalsada so ayun. Pinadisperse ko, cooperative naman sila,” he added.

(You can’t organise your protests in the road during the GCQ. We dispersed them and they were cooperative.)

The BTA mandate will expire on June 30 next year, prompting several groups to call for its extension for three more years.
