Antipolo jeepneys warned against overloading

/ 04:31 AM July 23, 2021

Antipolo Mayor Andrea Ynares on Thursday warned public utility vehicle (PUV) operators against taking passengers beyond their vehicle’s capacity.

In a Facebook post, the office of the mayor shared photos of jeepneys that were operating beyond the allowable capacity, with passengers jammed inside the vehicles.

The office reminded drivers and passengers that this practice is not allowed under existing health protocols. Under Memorandum Circular No. 2020-017 of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, passenger load shall not exceed 50 percent of half of the public transport unit’s capacity.

From road inspections conducted on June 24-28 and July 6-13, the city recorded 78 PUVs that violated health protocols.

In May, the Move As One Coalition published a study that noted how the public transport shortage in Metro Manila resulted in overcrowding and long lines of passengers.
