LUCENA CITY — Nine more individuals succumbed to COVID-19 in Quezon, bringing the death toll in the province to 736.
The Integrated Provincial Health Office reported in the afternoon of Thursday, July 22, that Candelaria town listed three fatalities; Lucena City and Sariaya, with two each; and one each in Atimonan and Unisan towns.
No other details were made available on the latest fatalities.
Lucena City, the Quezon capital which was downgraded to general community quarantine with heightened restriction status until July 31, has the highest number of fatalities at 137.
At least 67 of the total recorded deaths in the province since the pandemic started in March last year were recorded this month.
Quezon, which is still under the modified general community quarantine until the end of the month, has been recording a downward trend of COVID active cases.
From 937 active infections on July 1, it is now down to 732, as of the latest tally.
Eleven of the 41 municipalities in the province no longer have any recorded COVID-19 cases, the IPHO report showed.
The areas now considered COVID-19-free are the towns of San Francisco, General Nakar, Agdangan, Mulanay, Real and the island towns of Jomalig, Panukulan, Patnanungan, Burdeos, Quezon and Polillo.
Those previously infected in these municipalities have either recovered or died, the record showed.
As of July 22, Quezon recorded 16,381 COVID-19 cases and 14,913 recoveries since the pandemic struck. INQ
