MANILA, Philippines — Over 500,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer-BioNTech arrived in the Philippines on Wednesday night.
The aircraft carrying 459,810 doses of the Pfizer jab arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport around 9 p.m. while some 51,480 doses of the same vaccine brand were delivered to Cebu at 6:15 p.m., said the National Task Force against COVID-19 (NTF).
The NTF said 51,480 more doses will arrive in Davao City on Thursday, July 22.
This batch of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines totaling 562,770 doses was procured by the national government.
Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. has said the Philippines’ current vaccine supply can last until the middle of August.
Within the next six months, Galvez said the country is expecting 136 million more COVID-19 vaccine doses from various brands.
