Olongapo river swells due to heavy rain

OLONGAPO CITY—The water level of a river was nearing the critical mark at one of the bridges in this city, an official said Wednesday, July 21.

Citing data from the local disaster risk reduction and management office, Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. said the water in Mabayuan Bridge was at 1. 59 meters as of 7 a.m.

The elevation was on a warning level (1.50 to 2.40 m). It was less than a meter away from the critical mark of 2.50 m.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration issued a heavy rainfall advisory in the city and nearby Zambales province due to the southwest monsoon.

More than 20 millimeters of rainfall, or about eight gallons per square meter each hour, were expected to occur in these areas.
