MANILA, Philippines — “Let me do my job,” Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Guillermo Eleazar said on Wednesday as he shot down calls for him to join the senatorial race in the upcoming 2022 elections.
“I don’t want to be distracted, I don’t want to entertain these things,” Eleazar said over ABS-CBN News Channel when asked if he is open to run for senator following a supposed support from some groups.
“Hayaan niyong magtrabaho ako, wag niyo pong kulayan yung ating ginagawang pagtatrabaho,” he added.
(Let me do my job, please don’t put color to what I am doing.)
Nevertheless, the police chief still thanked the groups who are pushing for his senatorial run.
Eleazar, who was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte last May, is set to retire in November.
“Hangad ko lang, pagkatapos ng aking trabaho, ay makapagpahinga, at makasama ang aking pamilya,” he said.
(After my job, all I want is to have a rest and to be with my family.)
